The EXTRAORDINARY MISSIONARY MONTH OCTOBER 2019 Final Report by the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples Pontifical Mission Societies, edited by Fr. Fabrizio Meroni, PMU Secretary General, CIAM and Fides Director.

From different but complementary perspectives, the authors provide a thorough and insightful examination of the pneumatological and soteriological dimension of mission, drawing attention to the theological rationale that should guide the pastoral ministry and the overall missionary endeavour of Christians.
Hadjadj and Bueno de la Fuente’s works greatly contribute to meet the need for a renewed understanding of what mission is about, which is among the main reasons underlying Pope Francis’s magisterial and hortatory insistence in addressing missionary subjects. Therefore, this volume, promoted by the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU), aims to reach out to all the Baptized and Sent of the Church of Christ, religious and lay, women and men, who are on Mission in the World, as a source of inspiration for their approach to evangelization and the witness of the faith in missionary territories.

Challenges to Church’s Mission in Africa features the reflections of leading scholars, experts, and missionary figures, on issues of major relevance to the present and the future of evangelization in the Africa continent, such as: the theological foundations of the mission; the nexus between education and human integral development; the migration crisis and the response of the Church; the role of Church leaders in conflicts resolution; the secularization of African societies and the civil–political engagement of Christians; the Catholic faith facing the traditional religious practices and the rise of neo–Pentecostalism. Case studies were drawn from Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Central–African Republic.
